Making Waves started out as an annual DJ Party on International Women's Day and has morphed into a collective of womxn and underrepresented DJs and selectors in Sligo since 2023.

Founded by Edel Doherty, of Spilt Milk Festival Sligo and Vera Schliebitz co founder of Fulacht Fiadh Cafe, Manorhamilton, the collective found support with many peers and organisers who also help foster a wider music and DJ scene within Sligo.

This sense of community has been ablaze with various DJ nights being held all of which give a platform to music lovers and selectors regardless of previous experience in live music performance. This is what Making Waves is all about, inclusion, encouragement and the love of music. The Making Waves line up for the night are:

DJ V: Waterford raised and German born DJ V, and co founder of Making Waves Collective, plays a full vinyl mix of dance-hall bangers from across the globe. Expect an audio odyssey of rare grooves and global sounds to get your body moving.

DJ-G: Bass loving Sligo native DJ-G started Djing Reggae Dubstep and DnB around 2010. Since then her sets have covered Electro-Swing, Hip-hop & any other interesting genre that catches her ear. She has been guest Dj with the ‘Turn it on’ Djs and for Cairde’s closing party she will be going East & Tribal!

LoveSmoke: LoveSmoke is a b2b DJ duo based in Sligo; Kaya Sky (Sligo) and Misha Joe (Glasgow). Inspired by their time spent in Glasgow’s clubbing scene, the pair emerged in 2023. Influenced by their mixed heritage of Irish-Jamaican & Scottish-Zimbabwean, LoveSmoke explore an array of genres including Afro-Tech/House, Deep House and Disco Funk.
