The tormented protagonist, James, cradles a genuine desire to ignite the library. His internal strife, marked by alienation and disenchantment, fuels a visceral hatred within him. Women spurn him. Leftist politics fails to captivate him. Trans people challenge him. The queer community are happier than him. Foreigners have more than him.
The resilient librarian Helen stands sentinel over knowledge, freedom, and enlightenment. Her apprehension of James' demand for book censorship becomes pivotal in this unfolding drama. Initially, her attraction to James held promise, but his anger and demands evoke echoes of the book burnings of 1939 in Berlin. Helen finds herself at the epicentre of an escalating inferno, entwined with passion and far-right fascism.
Followed by an In Conversation with Dr. Rosaleen McDonagh hosted by academic, researcher and lecturer in social care at ATU Letterkenny David Friel.
With Joshua Donoghue and Aisling Mannion
