“beautiful harmonies, their sound uplifting and spiritual, even ethereal.” - folkradio
"Evocative, celestial, ethereal and, above all, extremely resonant” - The Thin Air
“..when Landless step onstage and open their mouths, the hush in the room is louder than any amplifier hum” - The Irish Times
Landless are Ruth Clinton, Meabh Meir, Sinead Lynch and Lily Power. They sing unaccompanied traditional songs from Irish, Scottish, English and American traditions in close four-part harmony. Their repertoire features songs of love, death and lamentation, as well as work songs, shape-note hymns and more recently-penned folk songs. They will be joined for a special Cairde Sligo Arts Festival concert by Consuelo Breschi (Varo) and Cormac MacDiarmada (Lankum).
Landless received glowing praise for their debut album, Bleaching Bones, released in March last year. Recorded by John ‘Spud’ Murphy (Lankum/Katie Kim) of Guerrilla Studios across a series of reverb-heavy historic churches across Ireland, Bleaching Bones has been described as ‘an immaculately performed and deeply moving record’ ‘an utter gem waiting to be treasured’.
Cormac MacDiarmada is a multi-instrumentalist and a member of acclaimed folk group Lankum. Their recent performance at the Abbey Theatre, ‘A National Disgrace’, was described by Uncut Magazine as a “stunning immersive livestream from the drone folk band”. Lankum have won numerous awards including the RTÉ Choice Music Album of the Year (2019) and multiple RTÉ and BBC Folk Awards.
Cormac will accompany Landless for this special concert, performing new arrangements of their songs on fiddle, viola, bass synth and Shruti box.
