Illuminations is a literary wunderkammer of poetry, spoken word, music and performance. Held in The Bookmart, it provides a welcoming and informal atmosphere in which you can read your own work, the work of others or just sit and listen. Cairde Sligo Arts Festival in association with Illuminations are proud to present a very special evening featuring the talents of internationally renowned authors Deirdre Sullivan (Needle Work) and Alan McMonagle (Ithaca).

Deirdre Sullivan is a writer and teacher from Galway. Her most recent novel, Needlework, was awarded a White Raven and the CBI honour award for fiction 2017. Her next book, Tangleweed and Brine will be released in September.

Alan McMonagle has written for radio and published two collections of short stories (Liar Liar, Wordsonthestreet, 2008 and Psychotic Episodes, Arlen House, 2013). Ithaca, his first novel, has just been published by Picador and was immediately nominated for the Desmond Elliott Award for first novels. Sligo-born, he now lives in Galway.
